Cesar Dovalina, Jr.

Cristina Foods

Cesar Dovalina, Jr. grew up in the Marquette Park neighborhood on Chicago’s southwest side. A Marist High School graduate, he attended St. Norbert College in DePere, WI, and Loyola University-Chicago, majoring in public accounting.

Cesar learned the food business at his family’s popular Mexican restaurant chain, La Maragarita. Prior to venturing on his own, he held every position, from bus boy, to food and beverage manager, to assistant comptroller.

He founded Cristina Foods, Inc. in January, 1989, using personal savings, a used box truck, and his garage as his warehouse.  Today, Cristina Foods serves hundreds of customers throughout the Chicago Metro area and Northwest Indiana, and has a 23,000 square foot facility in the Randolph/Fulton market district.  However, in early spring, 2011, the company will move its operations to a state-of-the-art, 50,000 square foot facility in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.  It will be the first, LEED certified platinum food distribution facility in the country. The company holds MBE (Minority Business Enterprise) certification with over 10 governmental agencies. In August, 2009, during Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week, Cristina Foods was formally recognized by the United States Department of Commerce as its “Regional Minority Distributor of the Year”.

Cesar and his wife, Debra, have four children, and reside in the near southwest suburbs.

His hobbies include winter sports, bike riding, golf, and collecting vintage sports memorabilia.
