Roberto Cornelio has more than twenty years of professional experience, including holding high-level, executive leadership positions in the public sector and a Fortune 100 corporation and a recognized, extensive record of achievement, innovation, and success. He has management experience in multiple areas including: program design and implementation; benchmarking; evaluation; communications; corporate, community, and public relations; project coordination; training; staff supervision; strategic planning; budgeting; and others. He also has extensive experience as liaison to prominent local and national corporate, government, and community groups and institutions. Prior to joining IHCC as its Chief Operating Officer, Roberto Cornelio held the following positions:
Consultant: Provided innovative community relations and marketing services to auto industry representatives interested in building relationships in the Hispanic community.
Executive Director, Little Village Chamber of Commerce: Chief Executive of a membership organization representing over 1,000 businesses in one of the most important, vibrant commercial areas in Chicago and Illinois.
Director of Public and Community Affairs, McDonald’s Corporation/Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC): Executive in a Fortune 100 corporation. Owned internal and external education, community relations, and scholarship functions. Personally administered the RMHC/HACER Scholarship Program and conceived and led a comprehensive, successful two-year effort that doubled annual scholarship awards (from $700,000 to $1.6 million,) earning the program high distinction as the nation’s second largest education fund for Hispanic students.
Director of Programs, Chicago Department of Human Services: Senior Executive responsible for the successful operation of various programs including Emergency Services; and the Summer Food Service Program.
Director/Community Liaison, City of Chicago Advisory Council on Latino Affairs: Senior Executive in City government serving as liaison to the Latino community. Initiated various innovative, successful collaborative efforts and projects with corporate, business, professional and community leaders, including the first ever citywide Latino/Hispanic Business Opportunities Conference and the Latino Community Education and Voter Registration Radio Marathon.
Director of Planning, Research and Development, IRCA Unit, Chicago Commission on Human Relations: Director of City Unit created to administer implementation of the City of Chicago's programs created by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
Roberto attended the University of Illinois at Chicago where he majored in Political Science and Latin American Studies, graduated from the City of Chicago Intergovernmental Executive Development Program and has completed professional development courses in Management, Leadership, Team Development & People Practices. Roberto’s community involvement activities includes being the Co-Founder of the Chicago Area Latino Mentors Association, serving as Board President of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Protection, Eighteen Street Development Corporation and Latinos United and acting as an informal senior advisor to multiple community based organizations.
