Alex Alcantar, Procurement Technical Assistance Center Director
Alex Alcantar is a Chicago Southside native living out his passion for working with the small business community. Alex received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Chicago State University and started his career of helping small businesses at the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in 2010. For the past 8 years, he's dedicated himself to helping local entrepreneurs and educating small businesses who are interested in marketing their services and products to local, state, and federal agencies. Since becoming Director of the Procurement Technical Assistance Center at the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Alex has helped small businesses secure more than $200M in government contracts and add over 300 jobs to the local economy. Just as passionate about hip-hop music as he is about entrepreneurship, Alex and a couple of his lifelong friends started their own music media company in 2012 called PursuitOfDopeness. With his experience in entrepreneurship and his passion for the local music and art culture scene, he combines his interests to help creatives pursue their dreams and make them into a reality. Alex currently sits on the board of directors for Prospanica Chicago (formerly known as the National Society of Hispanic MBAs), Beats & Bars, a hip-hop program that teaches high school students how to make, market, and sell their music, and mentors at Midtown Center for Boys.
