Ernesto Berrum grew up in the West suburbs of Chicago and received his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Being the first person from both sides of his family to graduate from a university, he hopes to serve as a role model for both his siblings and others in similar situations. During his time at UIC he was part of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, SHPE, where he learned the staggering statistics of Hispanic enrollment and graduation rates from postsecondary institutions in America. Having seen the power of education, he is now focused on changing those statistics by aiding organizations that strive for a social impact in the Latino community.
Ernesto is a three-time Chicago Marathon finisher and likes exploring scenic landscapes. He enjoys music and trying out the diverse cuisine the city offers.
